🏆 G1 RACING PREVIEW 🏆
Flemington & Rosehill – BJ’s Take on the Three Group 1s
⸻
G1 Australian Cup – Flemington R8
BET: ZARDOZI (#8) WIN
We’ve seen this script before… Pride Of Jenni comes out firing and burns her rivals into submission. But this time? Something feels different.
She came off a long break and was wound up for the Peter Young Stakes, despite the market drift. It wasn’t just a comeback run—there was too much on the line for her not to be ready.
That raises the big question: Was that her peak?
Regression feels likely.
Enter ZARDOZI.
She swaps Caulfield for Flemington—where she does her best work. Peaked fourth-up last prep in the Metropolitan and was enormous with zero favours in the run.
If Deny Knowledge applies the pressure to Jenni early, that’s the signal for Jamie Melham and Big Z to launch late.
She’s the closer. She’s the danger. And she’s the bet.

G1 Vinery Stud Stakes – Rosehill R6
(Postponed until Tuesday)
BET: POWERS OF OPAL (#3) PLACE
Trifecta: 1, 3, 5 (Boxed)
The rain is coming. Maybe lots of it.
That’s a big query for TREASURETHE MOMENT, especially at $1.60.
On a dry deck? She’d be $1.25—too good.
But with a heavy track looming, she suddenly becomes vulnerable.
There’s value elsewhere.
The Phar Lap Stakes was a crawl—MOVIN’ OUT, REAL CLASS, DECLICHY BOULEVARD, and POWERS OF OPAL were all disadvantaged by the tempo.
MOVIN’ OUT was the eye-catcher, but it’s POWERS OF OPAL that ticks the boxes:
• Blinkers on
• Out to 2000m
• Strong Spring SP profile
• Gave the fav a test in the Spring
And DECLICHY BOULEVARD? Don’t be shocked if Nash sends her forward and gives a cheeky sight, just like he did in this race last year.
Back POWERS OF OPAL to place and box the trifecta: 1, 3, 5.

G1 Tancred Stakes – Rosehill R8
(Postponed until Tuesday)
BET: CIRCLE OF FIRE (Each-way)
Let’s talk about VAUBAN.
I was a knocker… and then he showed up first-up over 2000m, clocked a sizzling 33.52 last 600m, and left Arapaho for dust.
He drifted in betting, was against the race shape—and still torched them.
So yes, he could regress, but I’m not putting the pen through him.
But the real watch? CIRCLE OF FIRE.
He’s been crying out for 2400m. He was strong through the line last start, and this is his third-up run—the same stage he won on heavy last year before taking out the Sydney Cup.
It’s almost go time.
And don’t forget DUBAI HONOUR—he toyed with Anamoe when last in Australia. He’s older now, but when Haggas sends one down under, it’s never for a holiday.
CIRCLE OF FIRE each-way is the play. He’s ready to bounce.
⸻
Good luck if you’re playing in the big ones!
Let’s find another Marhoona.
