BJ’s Melbourne Cup Top Ten
VALIANT KING (1st): Waller’s always rated this bloke — and now the world’s seeing why
Blinkers on two back? Bolted in.
Caulfield Cup? Savaged the line.
That’s elite staying form.
He’ll eat up the 3200m
I’m calling it early… Valiant King = your 2025 Melbourne Cup winner
BUCKAROO (2nd): Buckaroo was robbed of his chance last year .
Given a sore back by the hoop, clocked the fastest 800–400m sectional of the Cup — doing it closed to the outside fence than the inside, which was the place to be!
He ran the trip, no doubt about that.
Fast-forward to this year… he’s flying.
Just stretched Via Sistina in the Cox Plate
Big weight — but it’s still less than weight-for-age.
He can win.
PRESAGE NOCTURNE (3rd): Presage Nocturne the flashing light in the Caulfield Cup.
Everyone said it — he wants further.
And now… he gets it.
Goes in everything.
ABSURDE (4th): Third time lucky for Absurde?
Had no luck in last year’s Cup — forget that beaten margin.
This time, he’s had a lead-up run to tune him up perfectly.
Could that be the difference?
Only question… he’s not getting any younger!
MORE FELONS (5th): More Felons was enormous charging from the back in the Metropolitan.
Last start? Race shape completely against him.
He’s got the ability to beat them at big odds.
RIVER OF STARS (6th): River of Stars was the best of the on-pace brigade in the Caulfield Cup — stuck on like a warrior.
Her Sydney Cup run was enormous, proving she can stay all day
This time? She ticks every box.
Represents value — and goes in everything.
HALF YOURS (7th): Half Yours — the favourite for a reason.
Had all the favours in the Caulfield Cup, sure…
but he earned that win fair and square.
Right setup. Right form.
He can absolutely win again.
ONESMOOTHOPERATOR (8th): Smoothie had no luck in this race last year — still managed the third-best last 200m when finally clear and hitting the line hard.
This prep? Lead-in win was terrific.
Loves Australia.
AL RIFFA (9th): Al Riffa might just be the best horse in the race
Big weight? Wide draw? Sure.
But when you’ve got this much class, you have to include him.
Goes in on ability and the Zahra factor.
ROYAL SUPREMACY (10th): Royal Supremacy just sneaks into the Top 10.
Did enough at Caulfield, big sectional between the 800m and 400m.
Now steps to Flemington, where the big track and long straight play right into his hands.
Can sneak a place.
