G1 Tips: All Aged Stakes Day

Day 3 of the Randwick Carnival might only have two Group 1s, but it’s still a cracking day of racing. It looks a tough program too, with plenty of chances in most races and not a lot of easy answers.

The feature is the All Aged Stakes (Race 9) over 1400m, and it’s a beauty.

All Aged Stakes (R9) – 1400m

#1 GIGA KICK (Rachel King)

He’s won and finished second in The Everest — that’s the class of this horse.

He might have won the TJ Smith Stakes last start with even luck, but the key difference here is that he gets back onto top of the ground. Is he at his best with the sting out of the track? I’d say yes.

He can definitely win, but I do think he may have been slightly flattered last start by the conditions.

#2 JIMMYSSTAR (Ethan Brown)

He finished third in last year’s Everest despite having no luck, and at the end of last preparation over this trip he was simply too good for race-favourite Angel Capital.

The question is: how’s he going?

His two runs this prep have been inconclusive, but they’ve still been well below his best. The draw does him no favours either. Happy to let him go around without me.

#3 BRIASA (Zac Lloyd)

He’s a good horse when he’s at his best — but is he there yet?

He did enough first-up, but his latest effort was well below par. He’s got the talent, but he needs to bounce back.

#5 HALF YOURS (Jamie Melham)

He’s a Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup winner, but it would shock me if he won this fresh.

This looks more like a kick-off run before he heads towards some lofty targets in Queensland later in the campaign.

#6 PERICLES (Craig Williams)

This bloke is going well without much luck.

At his past two starts he’s drawn wide, been forced to restrain, and has mostly covered extra ground without cover. This could be his right trip, and from the better draw he looks capable of filling a placing at double-figure odds.

#8 ANGEL CAPITAL (James McDonald)

He gets J-Mac on for the first time, which is a big push.

He was held up late in the Newmarket, and I thought he was a better run than Jimmysstar last start. He’s also had a lovely tick-over trial in Sydney and looks desperate for the rise to 1400m.

If he can settle a little closer from the better draw, he’ll be right in the finish.

#11 FANGIRL (Ben Melham)

She’s a star, and 12 months ago she probably would have been favourite for a race like this.

She loses McDonald, but she certainly hasn’t lost all of her ability. Her recent trial was good, and at around double-figure odds she looks over the odds.

#12 LAZZURA (Jason Collett)

She’s a last-start Group 1 winner who looks like she’ll be well suited back at 1400m.

She’s drawn to get the right run, should stalk the speed, and while she takes on the boys here, she’s not without a blowout chance.

#14 BEIWACHT (Nash Rawiller)

He’s flying, this bloke.

His run in the George Ryder was enormous after working from a wide draw, and he never shirked the task. Start prior, it took Joliestar to beat him — and she’s since come out and won a TJ Smith Stakes.

He gets back to 1400m for the first time since that Golden Rose demolition, and if he gets anywhere near that performance, they won’t see which way he goes.

With Nash Rawiller likely to take control from the front, he looks the one.

MY TIP: Beiwacht at $7

He’s in form, maps well, gets the right jockey, and the return to 1400m looks ideal. In a race full of chances, he appeals as the value.

Champagne Stakes (R7) - 1600m

#1 CAMPIONE D’ITALIA (James McDonald)

He’s already a Group 1 winner this preparation after taking out the Inglis Sires, and he was desperately unlucky in the Golden Slipper. Saturday is his chance to stamp himself as the only dual Group 1 winner of the two-year-old crop.

He still does things wrong. But if he gets it right — he probably wins.

#2 FIREBALL (Tim Clark)

He didn’t have the best of luck last start — but there wasn’t much between him and Campione D’Italia when the dust settled. He ran into trouble and still ran well. Can the low draw help him turn the tables on his stablemate?

#4 SOUTHEND (Dylan Gibbons)

Two from two and unbeaten. How good is he? We find out Saturday when he steps up against the best of the crop for the first time.

#10 MISS CHANEL (Reagan Bayliss)

She never runs a bad race. She hit the line as well as anything in the Sires Produce and while she draws wide here, expect her to be strong late. She’s the main danger.

MY TIP: CAMPIONE D’ITALIA @ $2.60

He’s a smart horse with the best jockey in the world in the saddle - if he gets it right again, he should prove a bit too strong.

We’ve won on 11 of the first 15 Saturdays in 2026 — and this Saturday shapes as another huge one. Get all our tips for the day, including the massive Ascot meeting for The Quokka, with a 7-day FREE trial. No lock-in, cancel anytime. Join here.
