Horses To Follow - Rosehill
G’day Punters,
For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Blake Johnston an ex bookie that’s turned his hand to tipping (punting) - I won Australia’s Best Tipster for The Great Tipoff a couple of years ago.
Saturday was a good day for me overall. I started the day with ZOUNAKA ($6.50), she was beaten almost four lengths, so it didn’t start all that well lol, but things did improve from there.
We went to Flemington for one bet in the fourth race, BRILLANTEZZA ($6) let rip with an electric turn of foot to win. She’s still in her first prep, so if she continues to progress, she can definitely measure up in better races.
We then had to wait until the eighth race at Rosehill where we backed SMASHING TIME ($2.80) who looked the winner at the furlong but found one better (DARK GLITTER) late, she produced her career bloody peak at start 45 to beat us.
Sometimes you’ve just gotta shake your head - racing heh.
We then sent one out wide tip at Port Macquarie - we had to watch it one Sky 2!
SPRING BLOSSOM ($3) was whacked in the market and proved too strong locking in a winning day.
Then it was the feature race at Rosehill. We backed GLORIOUS MOMENTS ($4.20) who was heavily backed, starting a clear favourite.
He had his chance but looked to me like a horse that’s looking for a mile now.
Our last bet of the day came in the last race with SILVANITO ($6.50), I was worried when he was a bit soft in the market.
He got the right run and as soon as he paired off with SUPERMASSIVE, I knew with Alysha Collett in the saddle he’d be strong late.
It was a good win and helped us to finish 35 units (that’s $875 for a $25 per unit punter) in front of the bad guys.

Now for my horses to follow:
COLUMBIA BLUE: This was a terrific run first-up from 189-days on the back of a few good trials. He began well but was forced to restrain when speed kicked up on his inside, he then wanted to over-race. He was coming back at the wrong time, between the 800m and 600m is when you want to start building into the race. He kept finding the line despite racing fresh and we can expect him to improve second-up. The draw was costly.
SIR ARTIE: This was a sneaky run. He was second-up and began ok before being allowed to settle at the back. He wasn’t given much hope, but I did like the way that he worked to the line clocking the best last 200m and second-best last 400m of the meeting. He should be at his peak third-up from a better draw, expect sharp improvement.
Put them in your Black Book (available for free with most big bookies) and look out for our FREE TIPS blog later in the week.
Cheers,
BJ
