Horses To Follow - Randwick
G’day Punters,
For those who don’t know me, I am Blake Johnston. The son of champion jockey Malcolm, I worked for the bookies in the early part of my career but now I work for the punter. I was crowned Australia’s Best Horse Racing Tipster in 2024 by The Great Tipoff - an externally verified tipping site with over 1,000 entrants, including those in the media. If you’d like to get my daily horse racing tips, you can learn more here.
Now, for my horses to follow from the meeting at Randwick. All in all I think the track played relatively fair, obviously it was very heavy, so it was a disadvantage to be early in your preparation, but you could sit wide and win.
TAZIMA (Race 7): Well this isn’t usually the type of horse that I would be putting in my black book. He was having his seventh run of the prep, but the big bastard just keeps getting better! He powered through the line in a fast race despite being back and wide without cover. I think he’s better than benchmark grade and can measure up in richer races, let’s see if Chris Waller aims him up at something like a Metropolitan Hcp in the spring, if he can stretch out in distance, he measures right up.
BONIFACE (Race 7): Apparently it’s pronounced Bony-Face. This is exactly the type of horse that I love to put in my Black Book. He began well before being restrained, he’s hit the line strongly with a gap to third. He was only third-up, so there is more to come. No match for the winner - so hopefully the team dodge TAZIMA next time.
SIRIUS LEGEND (Race 8): He’s back in the care of Les Bridge with the suspension of Anthony and Sam Freedman. It was a terrific second-up run, he was really given no hope after being restrained at the start. Held-up at a key stage before doing his best work through the line. He peaks next time from a better draw. This is the type of horse that has a low enough benchmark rating to drop back in grade - maybe to the provincials or midweek grade., geez I would love to see that!
IT’S A KNOCKOUT (Race 9): Liked the run. Interstate switch with the wide draw against, she was restrained and forced to come over heels at a key stage. The winner sprinted too quickly for her, but her work through the line was terrific. I reckon a mile next time from a better draw would suit.
Put em’ in your Black Book, or become a member and we will let you know when they’re in.
Cheers,
BJ
