The Caulfield Cup
Caulfield · Saturday 17 October
This is exactly how our members see every race. Our TLU Top 4 with write-ups, our suggested bet and the speed map.
One stat every punter should know, from TopRate's Daniel O'Sullivan: over the last 11 years, 68 Caulfield Cup runners came into the race rating below 100 at their previous start, and not one of them won. Our top pick Saint George is one of those horses, but we're looking for one to buck the trend. Here is our full race preview, the same one our members get.
Caulfield Cup G1
Our members have been on him since September at $17, and he's the one we think can buck the trend. He was building to this race, closing strongly for second carrying 58.5kg two back, and we can forgive his 11-plus length defeat on the heavy deck in the Turnbull. Now he drops to 53.5kg and barrier 2 should give him a soft run. He was re-plated and must pass a race-day vet check before he can run.
Relished the heavy track to win the Turnbull comfortably, and ran a good second before that. He rates top of the field and nothing suggests 2400m is a problem. A valid favourite, even from a wide draw.
English visitor who led and kept finding to win the Group 3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood. He draws the rail, and his best English form puts him in the top three.
Lightly raced English stayer who kept rolling over 2671m to win the Geoffrey Freer Stakes last start. He's drawn wide, but he goes forward and can give them a sight.
