Black Book Horses From Randwick (07.03.26)
Every week there are runs that have hidden merit, regardless of how they look in the form guide.
Below are the runners that punters should be adding to their black book after Saturday’s racing.
JUJA KIBO
Terrific effort second-up. He sat one off the fence without cover on a very fast tempo, which is rarely the place to be, yet he kept digging through the line late. That’s the run of a horse building fitness and he should be peaking third-up next start.
CHAYAN
She found the right spot in the run but what stood out was her strength through the line. There’s still improvement to come and she looks the type that will peak at exactly the right time for the Golden Slipper - she should be clear favourite.
HORSESHOE HILL
Very good return first-up after 245 days. She was a touch slow away, copped a squeeze early and over-raced towards the back of the field. Historically she’s settled much closer to the speed and will strip much fitter next start.
INKARUNA
Probably should have beat Beadman and won the race. Landed in the right spot first-up but had to wait for a run at a crucial stage before hitting the line strongly. A touch unlucky and she can improve again off that figure.
PINITO
The race shape didn’t suit, yet she still produced excellent closing sectionals to get the job done. She ran equal to her peak figure and looks like there’s more upside still to come.
GIGA KICK
A very strong second-up run at 1000m, which is arguably short of his best now. His work through the line was elite, producing the clear best last 200m of the meeting. Looks ready for further in distance.
SHEZA ALIBI
Sheza Jet! Nothing went right early. She was caught covering extra ground without cover in a fast race, yet still let rip late. Every closing sectional was above standard despite the race going 3.1 lengths above standard to the 800m. Huge win and can now entre the Australia’s best horse conversation.
GREEN SPACES
He looks ready to win. Began well before being restrained and forced to cover extra ground in a fast tempo race. His work through the line was the best outside of the quinella.
LADY SHENANDOAH
Terrific effort with the race shape completely against her. Settled well back and was covering extra ground from the rear, yet still finished strongly. She’s flying and from a better draw could produce a career peak next start.
HEADLEY GRANGE
Good return first-up after 123 days. Produced a career peak rating, which suggests he’s simply an improving horse who can go to another level over further.
GRINGOTTS
Very good first-up performance. Began well before being restrained to the rear and hit the line against the race shape, with his best work late. Looks better suited at weight-for-age and should improve as the distances increase.
