G1 Preview - Doomben 10,000

Cracking race and it’s a case of the old boy (JIMMYSSTAR) vs the up and coming 3yo’s. Who comes out on top?

Here are my selections for the Doomben 10,000 (Doomben R8):

JIMMYSSTAR (1st): Will the tighter track at Doomben suit his get back and run on style? It’s not ideal but he does have a good record at Caulfield which is a comparable track. He had the pattern of the day, wide draw, and race-shape against when he hit the line hard in the All Aged Stakes behind Beiwacht. That was over 1400m and the drop in trip here is against, but last time he was on rain affected ground he looked like Phar Lap winning the Russell Balding (PRIVATE EYE finished 5th). A testing track is ideal for the drop in trip. He’ll be hard to hold out.

GRAFTERBURNERS (2nd): He was no match for Tempted last start but that's good form for any race. He can only strip fitter for that effort and gets Zac Purton in the saddle. His trainer Kelly Schweida stated that he’d prefer dry ground, so that’s a concern. I tipped him in The Galaxy when heavily supported late and scratched at the gates, so will be including him in everything.

NAPOLEONIC (3rd): Joliestar and Tempted scattered in his form from last preparation, that's good form. His win in the Red Anchor Stakes was that of a good horse and maybe they just aimed up a bit too high with him? Suggest that McDonald would have had options here and lands on this bloke. Still learning but has trialled super to return from a short break. His trainer Tom Charlton suggested that he will love the potential heavy conditions.

BEADMAN (4th): Brilliant winning just seven-days ago and strikes rain affected ground on the quick back-up. Almost lapped his rivals last time he struck a heavy track at the Gold Coast, wouldn't be surprised to see the market trend toward him

The old boy on top of three 3yo’s. Should be a cracking spectacle.
