G1 Preview - QLD Oaks & Best Bet
The Queensland Oaks looks either one horse, or anything could bloody win it. Back your judgment, here are my thoughts:
🏆 QLD Oaks (2200m)
PANOVA (1st) is already a Group 1 Oaks winner and she brought the A-Grade Sydney 3yo fillies form to that last start win. At the end of the day, we might be saying how in the world did we get $3.70 about that filly? Because if she reproduces her SA Oaks win, she should put a gap in these. She’s got class, go back to the Spring when she beat Regal Award at Flemington over a mile – that bloke will start close enough to favourite in the Stradbroke Hcp. Waller was always of the opinion that she was behind in her fitness for the majority of the preparation – she’s only having her fifth run of the campaign here. She was nominated for the Doomben Roses but they decide to hit this with 42-days between runs, the stable did the exact same with the last horse to do it in Egg Tart, gap between runs with a tick-over trial.
SOLID GOLD (2nd) was the eye-catcher at Doomben against the boys in the Rough Habit Plate and then tackled them once again in the Derby, she started a well backed favourite and ran well. She was clearly the best of the horses that sat close to a fast tempo in a race that was set-up for the closers. She maps to get a much more economical run here and the slight drop in distance is a potential positive.
CHISPA (3rd) was well supported in the Doomben Roses which is the key lead-up (9 horses come through that race) and she ran well, doing her best work through the line. She has a big finish on her but will need it from a terrible draw. Looks a progressive staying filly and that last start market expectation suggests that she will be right in the finish.
PARVENU (4th) was a similar run to CHISPA in the Doomben Roses and you could argue that her last couple of strides were better. She maps to settle closer to the lead here and the extra distance should suit. She’s definitely one to include for exotics.
🔍 BEST BET: GLORIOUS MOMENTS (Randwick R10) should be favourite (he's currently second-favourite at $4.40) and I am going to back him accordingly. I reckon the current favourite (NITRO) is a good horse but the bastard always misses the kick, which means that he is luckless more often than not (exactly what happened first-up). This bloke on the other hand, will be making his own luck on the speed. He was ridden by James McDonald first-up but it wasn't the great man's best steers, the horse was four wide without cover - he was simply too good. He exploded in the ratings second-up last prep and if he does the same here with the rise in trip, he will win, simple as that.

Good luck on the punt,
