G'day Punters,
Golden Eagle Day at Randwick had plenty going on, but the results only tell you who crossed the line first.
A few horses had no luck at all. Others were stuck in the wrong spot, got back from wide draws or were simply racing above their level. They're the ones I want to be on next time.
These are the 6 horses I've added to the Black Book from Randwick on Saturday 31 October.1. NINJA: Randwick Race 7, Russell Balding Stakes (Group 2, 1300m)
Trainer: Michael Freedman · Finished 4th of 15 · SP $4.40
A very good run without any favours. He began well and looked for cover but couldn't find it, so he covered extra ground early. He then had to work to sit outside the leader, surged to the front and was no match late. He was entitled to fold after doing all that work, but he didn't.
2. STREET FORCE: Randwick Race 2, Highway Handicap (Class 3, 1400m)
Trainer: Scott Singleton · Finished 3rd of 14 · SP $14
The wide draw (barrier 14) was no help. She began well before being snagged back, and while the race shape was okay on a solid tempo, she really savaged the line late. She's going well and can win a Highway next time.
3. BONNIE MURRINGO: Randwick Race 2, Highway Handicap (Class 3, 1400m)
Trainer: Darrell Burnet · Finished 6th of 14 · SP $15
Specked in the market and didn't have much luck second-up. She looked to be travelling well with nowhere to go, and her late splits once she was half clear were good. Forget the beaten margin.
4. GIRIJAALA: Randwick Race 6, Fillies and Mares Benchmark 78 (1300m)
Trainer: Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes · Finished 4th of 12 · SP $18
She was squeezed at the start, got back and warmed up nicely through the line. She won second-up last preparation and can improve sharply next time.
5. RIVELLINO: Randwick Race 8, Golden Eagle (Group 1, 1500m)
Trainer: Kris Lees · Finished 7th of 16 · SP $101
Eligible for much easier than a $10 million Group 1. He began okay before going back to last, was never fully clear, and still ran the best last 200m of the race. He can win when he's better suited at the weights.
6. SUPER INFINITY: Randwick Race 10, Benchmark 78 (1100m)
Trainer: Tim Donnelly · Finished 8th of 9 · SP $21
Also eligible for much easier. Got back from the wide draw before ripping home late. A drop in grade will suit.
