Randwick Horses to Follow: 6 Runners from Saturday to Watch Next Start

Saturday at Randwick was a big day for us. Three of our five Pro Tips saluted, and plenty more of the runners we liked put their hand up.

But the results only tell half the story. A few horses were held up when it mattered, a couple were ridden for luck from bad draws, and one has a lot more to come even after winning.

Most people look at the finishing order and move on. That's where we find our edge. These are the 6 runners from Randwick on Saturday 24 October I'm marking in the black book for next start.

1. BLUISH HUE: Race 2, TAB Highway Handicap (SP $2.40)

The market loved him late. He began well enough, got crossed early and then raced keen, and had to ease over heels before he could get going. Once he was clear he was really strong through the line and went down by a whisker. The race shape was against him. Put a line through it.

2. OLYMPIAN: Race 2, TAB Highway Handicap (SP $5)

First-up and he settled well back. He hit the line in limited room and I liked his final furlong once he was finally clear. That run tells me he wants further now, and he'll be fitter for it.

3. KOVALICA: Race 6, Craven Plate (SP $21)

He's going well this horse. Taken back from the wide barrier, then badly held up in the straight. Forget the beaten margin completely. What's his grand final? Find the right race and the right set up and I expect sharp improvement.

4. ARABIAN ROSE: Race 8, The Invitation (SP $20)

Complete excuse. She was badly held up in the straight and never got a crack at them, so forget the beaten margin. She's still early in her preparation, so expect her to improve next time.

5. DECLICHY BOULEVARD: Race 9, Five Diamonds Prelude (SP $3.20)

Very good win, and she was one of our Pro Tips. She began well before being restrained and was confidently ridden. She travelled into the race but had to knuckle down late to win it. There is more to come from her.

6. WELCOMETOTHESHOW: Race 9, Five Diamonds Prelude (SP $6)

He's flying and didn't have much luck here. Held up at a key stage, he had to ease over heels and then produced the best last 200m of the race to run third. Forgive the beaten margin.
