Randwick & Caulfield Tips Saturday: Free Sir Rupert Clarke & Underwood Stakes Best Bets

G’day Legends,

How bloody good is it.

We've got G1 racing at Caulfield as well as the kick-off of The Everest carnival in Sydney, not to mention we're deep into the business end of the NRL and AFL seasons (not that I'm a big AFL man — and the Sea Eagles are gooooone).

For those who don't know me, I'm Blake Johnston. Ex bookie turned punter, crowned Australia's Best Tipster by The Great Tip Off.

Intro out of the way — let's get into the tips.

Underwood Stakes Tips

This looks a race in two: Cosmic Crusader ($2.60) vs Lindermann ($2.80).

Pikey gave Cosmic Crusader a sore back two weeks ago (hope he doesn't come after me next time he boots home a winner, lol) — we love you Pikey.

And Nash did what Nash does best last start on Lindermann — smoke a cigarette while leading on one. Blake Shinn takes over this time.

Who am I with? I reckon Lindermann controls the race and gives a good kick, but there's not much between them.

Cosmic Crusader is finally over this trip, and gets the big barrier change. He should get the right run and be charging late.

The market adored him last start in the Memsie Stakes, and he ran well without much luck.

Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Tips

An absolute cracker. Rib tickler. Jarryd Hayne in 2009 — whatever good thing you want to call it. Love these big field handicaps.

I reckon Cliff Brown holds the key, with a couple through the Stradbroke.

Sepals ($12) went terrific from the wide draw last start — back and wide, but still surging through the race. He won this exact race last year, sitting on top of a hot tempo. The map looks much nicer from a better draw this time.

Von Hauke is big odds at $41, but I reckon he runs a race. Wide draw against him in the Stradbroke, but he hit the line strong late. Plenty of speed on today, and he can be strongest over the concluding stages — watch out for him late.

Best Bet Saturday

Headwall ($3.30) in The Shorts (Randwick R9) looks one of the better bets of the day.

He didn't have much luck first-up behind Tempted (good form). Gets an extra 100m here, and a positive map — much better than key rivals Joliestar and Ninja.

I reckon he announces himself as a must-pick for The Everest.

Value Bet Saturday

The Euphrates ($5.50) in the Kingston Town Stakes (Randwick R6) looks good value, going on his lone Australian run.

He was good behind Lindermann, and meets them all better at the weights — they also had a fitness edge on him in The Chelmsford.

He strips fitter here, gets a positive riding change with Tim Clark engaged, and will control the race from the front over the extra trip.

I reckon he gives them something to catch.

Good luck if you follow,

BJ
