Saturday & Sunday Racing Tips: Rosehill Best Bets plus Golden Rose & Manikato Stakes Preview
G'day punters,
Last week, I steered you into The Euphrates — who got the job done — and Headwall, who was a non-event. He simply got too far back in what turned into a walking race.
One from two ain't bad, especially when the winner pays $6. How bloody good!
I reckon he can go back-to-back in The Metropolitan next week too.
For those who don't know me, I'm Blake Johnston. Ex bookie turned punter, crowned Australia's Best Tipster by The Great Tip Off a couple of years back.
Now, here are my best bets for the weekend.
Rosehill Best Bet
STARZINTHEIREYES (Rosehill R4) gets a heap of key positives. James McDonald goes aboard, from a better draw, and the distance is ideal second-up. His fresh run was great — backed as if unbeatable, he settled further back than expected before making a long, sustained run, showing good late strength despite no favours along the way. Expect him to improve sharply.
Rosehill Value Bet
MERCY ME (Rosehill R10) went down narrowly in stakes grade against her own sex, sitting outside the leader — last start was a complete excuse. She returns off a couple of good trials, and looks set to control this race from the front. Well suited in benchmark company.
Golden Rose Tip (Rosehill R8)
For the Golden Rose, it's pretty simple. Guest House is the best horse in the race, and I don't want to bet against him.
He was given the best ride of the day from Zac Lloyd — genuinely has to be in the conversation for Ride Of The Year — and won well. But he goes a month between runs, and steps up to 1400m for the first time. I'd have liked to see a trial in between, but he's got the class and the draw to win regardless.
Manikato Stakes Tips (Caulfield R8, Sunday)
I'm not going to knock Beiwacht, but the fact is
his best form comes over 1400m — three G1 wins, and every career-peak rating, all at that trip. He's a month between runs, and back to 1200m. No knock intended, but I'm happy to bet around him.
I'm going to forgive Oliveanotherday at $6. If connections hadn't run him down the straight last start, he'd be topping the betting here. The track was probably too firm that day, and I don't expect to see him down the straight again anytime soon. Before that run, he'd improved his rating at every single career start. His first-up win around a bend at this track was dynamic, and it measures right up to the winning standard here. Expect him to hit back hard.
